About This Yoga Practice
Christopher DeWinter began practicing yoga as a small child by watching Lilias Yoga and You, on American Public Television in the 1970s.
He has trained in Hatha and Ashtanga yoga styles, though he refers to his unique blend of strength-building postures, breath work, and visualization as “Stars Breath”. Christopher has been a volunteer yoga teacher at the San Francisco YMCA since 2003.
One interpretation of the Sanskrit word "yoga" is union. For many practitioners that means spiritual union with the divine.
In The West, the pursuit of "spirit" has led to a notion of The Self As Divine, a concept that Christopher embraces. When he refers to union in the context of yoga, he means connecting with self as that divine union.
Here are some key words that point to his approach to yoga. Maybe these ideas speak to you?
Breath (Continued Breathing), Focus, Self-Knowledge, Zen, Strength (not Power), Symbolism (Personal Meaning), Stretching, Slowing Down, Observation, Non-Competition, Self-Acknowledgement, Sensuality, One’s Own Practice, Non-Canon, Liberation.
